Parliamentarians visit the Middle East Region

In July 2015 three parliamentarians travelled to Australia’s Main Base in the Middle East Region (MER) as part of the Australian Defence Force Parliamentary Program (ADFPP) to experience life for Australia Defence Force personnel on operations.

The parliamentarians involved included Member for Leichardt, The Hon Warren Entsch MP, and Senators for Queensland, Senator James McGrath and Barry O’Sullivan.

The ADFPP fulfils a very important role in bridging mutual understanding between the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and our nation's parliamentarians.

The bipartisan program offers unique and often intimate first hand experiences of the challenges of service life. It also gives a broader understanding of the capabilities of the Australian Defence Force and the application of military power in the pursuit of strategic Government policy.
