More than 60 of Far North Queensland’s most innovative minds will be engaged in a frenzy of ideas this weekend as part of the Cairns Startup Weekend event.
Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister and Queensland LNP Senator the Hon. James McGrath will attend the event on Sunday to hear the final business pitches and present awards to winning participants.
“This is a brilliant concept, that brings together innovation, mentoring, experience and practical hands-on help for the region’s entrepreneurs,” Senator McGrath said.
“I can’t wait to hear the sort of ideas people have and see the way people collaborate to bring business concepts to life from a simple idea to a commercially viable venture.”
Senator McGrath said the small business sector employed millions of Australians and the Coalition Government was keen to support new ideas and innovation.
“With the successful negotiation of the Trans Pacific Partnership now complete, on top of the Free Trade Agreements with China, South Korea and Japan, Australia is on the threshold of a new era of exciting business opportunities,” Senator McGrath said.
“We want to send a message that Australia is ‘open for business’ and help small businesses and entrepreneurs take advantage of the unprecedented access to global markets that is now on the table.
“So, I would like to congratulate the organisers of this event from The Space, Cairns and the participants, mentors, sponsors and judges – it is a great way to exchange ideas and perhaps find the next ‘big’ concept to deliver to Australia and the world.”
Senator McGrath will attend the Cairns Startup Weekend event on Sunday 16 November, at “The Queenslander” Level 1 in S Block - Cairns TAFE from 5pm. Awards presentation scheduled to start approx. 6.30pm.
