The Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters has been asked by the Special Minister of State and the Minister for Finance to examine proposed amendments to the Commonwealth Electoral Amendment (Electoral Funding and Donations Reform) Bill 2017.

The proposed amendments are in response to the Committee’s April 2018 report on the Bill.

“I am pleased the Government has given the Committee the opportunity to review its proposed amendments to the Bill,” Senator McGrath said.

“It is vitally important that Australians have confidence that foreign entities are not influencing the course of Australian democracy.

“After a detailed inquiry in early 2018, the Committee made 15 recommendations on the Bill to the Government and I look forward to assessing how they have been addressed.

Submissions can be made through the Committee’s website at www.aph.gov.au/efdr and close on Thursday, 27 September 2018.
