Bribie Island Road in Estimates

Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee

McGRATH: I’d like to ask some questions about the Bribie Island Road upgrade project. I understand that the government announced $20 million for upgrade of the Bribie Island Road. Is that correct?

MS HALL: That’s correct.

McGRATH: Will this project proceed? I understand that the Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Mark Bailey, on behalf of the Queensland government, has to agree to add the Bribie Island Road project to the Queensland schedule of the National Partnership Agreement on Land Transport Infrastructure Projects. Is that correct?

MS HALL: Formally, yes, that’s correct.

McGRATH: Have your department or the minister written to Mr Bailey and the Queensland government to seek their agreement?

MS HALL: I’ll pass you on to Ms Garbin. She’s got an update on this.

MS GARBIN: Yes.

McGRATH: Have the Queensland government, or Mr Bailey, agreed to add the project to the Queensland schedule?

MS GARBIN: We’re yet to receive a response from the Queensland government.

McGRATH: I understand that, under the funding agreement, the Queensland department is required to provide a project proposal report to the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development. The department of infrastructure can make this request in anticipation of the minister’s agreement to add the project to the schedule, which we’ve discussed previously. Is that correct?

MS HALL: I believe so, yes.

MS GARBIN: That’s correct.

McGRATH: Has the federal department requested a project proposal report from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads?

MS GARBIN: Yes.

McGRATH: Has the department received a response from the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads?

MS GARBIN: No.

McGRATH: Just to sum up and clarify: the project cannot proceed until Minister Bailey and the Queensland government agree to add the project to the Queensland schedule of the national partnership agreement and until the Department of Transport and Main Roads provides a project proposal report seeking project and funding approval from the federal government?

MS GARBIN: That’s correct.
